The Builders and The Butchers

The Builders and the Butchers is comprised of 5 Alaskan natives who all moved to Portland, OR at different times to peruse a musical career. Channeling the desperation of the American south and west at the turn of the century, the builders blend gospel, bluegrass, rock and blues into an amazingly powerful sound. A chorus of banjos, stand up bass, mandolin and guitar support strong story focused lyrics. Anyone who still gets a kick out of songs about whiskey, the devil and salvation will be sure to enjoy. It was the builders self titled album released in 2007 that originally caught my eye, and there newest album Salvation is a Deep Dark Well cemented them as a integral part of my weekly rotation.
